2011 Bike for Hunger Riders and support.
Over $6,000 was raised for local food shelves and the ELCA World Hunger Fund.
Salem and Grace Lutheran Churches have collected $100,000 in the 23 years of sponsoring the "Bike For Hunger"
Their 24th annual 70 mile bike ride to raise money for local food shelves and the ELCA World Hunger Fund is September 10th.
The bike route will begin at the Munger Trail parking lot (by the zoo), continue on the Munger Trail to the Barnum City park. Following a picnic lunch, the route will follow the Munger Trail back to our starting point in West Duluth.
Family and friends are invited to join us in Barnum for the picnic.
Everyone and anyone 12 years and older are encouraged to participate. Parents of younger children are asked to participate in the ride with their children or to assist in the support crew.
You can do it! Ask a friend to join you in this fun event for a worthy cause!
Each participant is asked to raise money through dontations and pledges. There is a $12.00 registration fee which includes a t-shirt ($5 without t-shirt). The fee covers refreshments for riders and support crew.

...and he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and disciples to the multitude.
Matthew 15
When we gather up the crumbs of our individual gifts, we, too, can feed the multitude.
After 21 years, the bike for hunger riders logged enough miles to go around the earth almost 2 times and have raised over $100,000 for World Hunger. Wow! While we haven't actually ridden around the world, we have reached around the world as the money raised has helped feed God's children around the globe.
Thanks to all who participated in or supported this cause with your pledges! Bike for hunger takes place the Saturday after Labor Day every year so mark your calendar and join us next year as we continue to use the gifts God has given us in service of others.
We started our ride bright and early in west Duluth at 7:30 am with a briefing by our leader, Dave Johnson, and with some safety tips by Roger Berntsen. After a prayer led by Pastor Dick, we were on our way!
Below our some photos from the ride:

Roger gives us safety pointers and tips before we start our ride.

We had many youngsters join us on the ride!

Of course, we all look forward to lunch in Barnum!
This was a great opportunity for fellowship and fitness. No need to be an avid biker as you go at your own pace and no one gets left behind. There is a support team that offers refreshments and encouragement throughout the ride. Proceeds from the ride go to the local food shelves and the World Hunger Fund.
Next year, for Bike-a-Thon 2009, grab a bike, invite a friend and join us please!
