Faith Formation
Our Young People Growing In Their Faith
Luther’s Small Catechism
Martin Luther intended the Small Catechism to be a prayer book for individuals and families and a powerful tool for the Christian life because it provides a brief, clear summary of God’s Word on the essentials of the Christian faith.
What is Faith Formation?
Used to be known as Confirmation
Faith Formation meets Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 pm in the Sunday School wing.
Faith Formation (the ministry formerly known as ‘Confirmation’) is a two year plus journey and ministry at Salem for youth in grades 7 – 9. During their first and second years (7th & 8th grades) the students study Luther’s Small Catechism and Lutheran living with the pastor. We use Augsburg-Fortress’ CoLaborate curriculum for these two years.
During the fall of their 9th grade year, the pastor meets with them to go over the vows made at their baptisms. Their Affirmation of Baptism Sunday (Confirmation Sunday) is held during the fall where the students and the congregation renew their baptismal vows and the students are blessed by their families, godparents and the congregation and received into confirmation membership at Salem.
During their Faith Formation years, the youth have many opportunities to deepen their faith beyond our church walls:
